Of course, there are occasional issues, but the recovery from these problems is swift, and there is a strong awareness of the challenges posed by such troubles. In recent years, there have been notable examples of road and bridge maintenance utilizing IoT and sensor technologies, and here are three representative cases. 1. Remote Monitoring of Cable Tension in Cable-Stayed Bridges Using Wireless Sensors Traditionally, measuring the cable tension in cable-stayed bridges required traffic regulations and the removal of vibration-damping devices. However, by using wireless acceleration sensors and gateway devices, it became possible to measure the natural vibration frequency of the cables and estimate the tension without the need for traffic control.
